Police have arrested three people in a case filed against them for raising slogans of the banned Awami League in Anwara, Chittagong. The incident of raising slogans took place last Thursday. Three people were arrested from different areas of Juidandi Union of the upazila that night. A case was filed in this incident on Friday. Their arrests are shown in the case.
The arrested persons are Abdul Quader (50), Arif (20) and Abdul Khalek (28) of Juidandir. Police said that 20 wooden sticks, 10 brick piles, two locally made iron bars and eight iron pieces were seized during the raid.
Earlier, in a 41-second video that went viral on social media, several people wearing lungis were seen chanting slogans like 'Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu', 'Sheikh Hasina's soldier', 'Sheikh Hasina will return in the guise of a hero, to Bangladesh'. After the video went viral, there was a discussion in the area. Then, on the basis of the video, the Anwara police station conducted a raid on Friday night and arrested three people.
Police have filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act in this incident. The case names 68 people, including former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, former State Minister for Finance Wasika Ayesha Khan, the former Land Minister's younger brother Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, former Upazila Chairman Kazi Mozammel Haque, and Riduwanul Karim Chowdhury, the former Land Minister's personal assistant secretary. In addition, 60-70 unidentified people have been named as accused.
Anwara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Monir Hossain said, cases have been filed against 68 people under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Three of those arrested last night were sent to jail. Efforts are underway to arrest the others.
