Four people, including two schoolchildren, killed in lightning strike in Comilla

Four people, including two schoolchildren, were killed in lightning strikes in Barura and Muradnagar in Comilla. Of these, two schoolchildren died in Barura and two farmers in Muradnagar. The incident took place on Monday afternoon. 

According to local sources, Fahad Hossain (13), son of the deceased Khokon Mia of Payalgachha village in Barura upazila, and Billal Hossain, son of Mohammad Jihad (14), were busy flying kites in the field amidst light rain at noon. At that time, a sudden lightning strike seriously injured the two students. Locals rescued them and took them to the hospital, where the doctor declared them dead.

The two schoolchildren were 6th grade students at Baraharipur High School in Barura Upazila.

Barura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmul Hasan said that the police have reached the spot. The body has been handed over to the family without an autopsy as there is no complaint from the family.

In another incident, two farmers died after being struck by lightning in the Bangra Bazar police station area of Muradnagar upazila.

Locals said that Nikhil Debnath (55), son of the late Bir Charan Debnath of Korbanpur Paschim Para in Purba Union of Purba Dhair, and Jewel Bhuiyan (32), son of Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan of Deora village in Andikot Union of the upazila, died on the spot after being struck by lightning while working in the field. Two other people were injured at the time.

Shafiqul Islam, UP member of Korbanpur village, said that the two farmers were harvesting paddy in a field next to the Korbanpur Purbapara cemetery at noon. At that time, a sudden rain and lightning struck, killing the two farmers on the spot. Later, locals rescued them and informed the police station.

Bangra Bazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman said that two farmers were killed by lightning in a field next to the Korbanpur Purbapara graveyard. They were rescued and brought to the police station. Later, following the family's request, the legal process was completed and the bodies were handed over to the family.
