Heroin found while searching Chhatra Dal leader's body

Four people, including Nalitabari town Chhatra Dal convener Farid Alam, have been arrested in a joint operation by the army and police with heroin in Nalitabari, Sherpur.

The police sent the arrested people to court after filing a case under the Narcotics Act on Friday afternoon (December 6).

Earlier, joint forces arrested them from the Kalinagar area of the city on Thursday night. Nalitabari OC Chanowar Hossain confirmed the matter.

The arrested are Farid Alam (32), the convener of Nalitabari Town Chhatra Dal, son of Mujibur Rahman from the central Kalinagar area of the city, Habir Uddin (45), son of the late Syed Ali from the same area, Shahidul Islam (32), son of Ashraf Ali from the Garkanda area, and Nazmul Haque (27), son of the late Abdul Latif from the Khatua Kumri area of Sherpur Sadar Upazila.

Sources said that a team of army and police conducted a raid based on a tip-off that some people were selling illegal drugs in an abandoned house in Kalinagar area of the city. At that time, sensing the presence of the joint forces, Farid Alam, Habir Uddin, Shahidul Islam and Nazmul Haque were arrested while trying to escape. Later, after searching their bodies, 5 grams of heroin wrapped in white polythene inside a cigarette packet were recovered.

In this regard, Sherpur District Chhatra Dal Organizing Secretary Md. Zakir Hossain said, Chhatra Dal is an organization of the ideals of education, unity and progress. Those who are involved in activities like drugs will not be given a single penny here. However, I heard the discussed incident a while ago. If the incident is true, then organizational action will definitely be taken against him.

Regarding the matter, Nalitabari Police Station OC Chanowar Hossain said that a case has been filed against the arrested drug dealers under the Narcotics Control Act. They have been sent to court later.
