Chhatra League leader's mother 'hacked to death', but police remand father

Police have taken Abul Kalam Azad, the father of a Chhatra League leader, on a two-day remand in connection with the 'stab-to-murder' of his mother in Boda upazila of Panchagarh. He was arrested by the police as a suspect and presented in court on Saturday afternoon and applied for a seven-day remand, but the judge granted a two-day remand.

The woman was killed inside her house in the Kaliaganj area of Kaliaganj Union in Kajaldighi Upazila around 8:30 pm last Thursday. Locals said that BNP Jamaat workers came looking for her son but could not find him and hacked the mother to death.


The deceased, Arina Begum (45), is the wife of Abul Kalam Azad of the area. Their eldest son, Wahiduzzaman Amit Kajaldighi, is the president of Kaliaganj Union Chhatra League. Police arrested Abul Kalam Azad on Thursday night in this incident. There is intense anger among the locals over this.
