Jamaat Ameer says three conditions before elections

Jamaat-e-Islami has announced that it will fulfill three conditions before the next parliamentary elections are held. The conditions are - reforms, trial of fascists and proper election procedures. Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said this at a press conference at a hotel in the capital on Thursday.

He said the February 2026 deadline for the elections is not hard. Elections can be held before or after this time, if the conditions are met. All political parties should support the government in the reform process. The sooner they coordinate with the government, the sooner the elections will be held.

Stating that visible, acceptable and fundamental reforms are needed before the elections, the Jamaat Ameer said, Jamaat has proposed 41-point reforms, BNP has proposed 31 points, and others have proposed 56-57 points. However, Jamaat only wants six fundamental reforms. The trial of fascists should be held in such a way that justice is ensured. The elections should be conducted in such a way that no one can easily question the process. More dialogue and discussion is needed between the parties in this regard.

In response to a journalist's question, Shafiqur Rahman said that they are not setting a specific time frame for this trial. But this is their demand. Regarding their recent visit to several European countries, he said that during the visit, they met BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman. However, no formal discussions took place. They only went to inquire about Khaleda Zia's health. During their visit to the European Union, they called for opening embassies with different countries to improve bilateral relations and sought joint cooperation in the repatriation of Rohingya refugees.
