Nobipravi Representative
Finally, after a long time, Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NOUST) Pro-Vice Chancellor (Pro-VC) Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdul Baki resigned under pressure from students' protests. Students are saying that now it is the registrar's turn.
He submitted his resignation to the President and Chancellor through the Secretary of the Ministry of Education on Wednesday (August 21) morning, citing the environmental situation as the reason for his resignation.
In his resignation letter, he said, "In view of the above letter and the matters mentioned, I hereby inform you for your kind information and further necessary action that I, the undersigned, have been appointed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Noakhali Science and Technology University on 25/08/2021 with the approval of the Honorable President and Chancellor as per Section 12(1) of the Noakhali Science and Technology University Act, 2001. Since joining the said post, I have tried to fulfill the duties entrusted to me with utmost dedication and honesty. Considering the current environment and situation, in light of condition (d) of the said appointment letter, I humbly request you to allow me to join the main post by cancelling my appointment as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Noakhali Science and Technology University with effect from today."
Earlier, Nobiprabi Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdul Baki had taken leave until August 26 to go to Thailand, but he remained in the country and before the end of office hours yesterday afternoon, he canceled the remaining leave and sent a new joining letter.
Teachers, students and officials of Nobiprabi believe that he did this after becoming the acting vice-chancellor as per the rules.
Regarding the joining letter from the Vice-Chancellor yesterday, Acting Registrar Tamjid Hossain Chowdhury said, "There is no opportunity to receive the joining letter online. You will have to come to the campus in person and join."
It is learned that since August 7, students of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have been protesting demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Treasurer, and various administrative officials.
Meanwhile, university students have expressed excitement over the news of the deputy vice-chancellor's resignation.
Boni Yamin, coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement Nobiprabi, told Banglavision, "We are happy with the resignation of the vice-chancellor. However, the registrar has not resigned yet. Therefore, our movement will continue."
Besides, although happy with the resignation of the vice-chancellor, Iman Hossain, a general student of the Nobiprabi, an anti-discrimination student movement, said about the resignation of the registrar, "After the resignation of the VC, Pro-VC and Treasurer, it is now the registrar's turn. Our movement will continue until the registrar resigns. History has witnessed that the student movement has never failed, and it will gain momentum day by day. Therefore, the registrar must resign."
It is worth noting that on August 25, 2021, Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdul Baki was appointed as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NOUST) for a period of four years.
