Bangladesh wants the cooperation of the United Nations to return the wealth of the trafficking

Bangladesh has sought the cooperation of the United Nations to bring back the wealth of the smuggling abroad, while also calling for technology and policy support in the implementation of the ongoing reform activities effectively.

On Tuesday (October 15), Foreign Secretary Ambassador at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA. Jasim Uddin and UN Under Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Lee Junhuta's bilateral meeting discussed these issues.

After the meeting, a notification from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that the return of smuggling assets is a top priority of the government and the foreign secretary has called for cooperation from the United Nations to prevent tax evasion and illegal financial flow.

In the meeting, the Foreign Secretary informed the UN Under Secretary General about the ongoing reform program in Bangladesh adopted by the Interim Government as per the desire for the “July-August Revolution”. The Secretary of State emphasized on technology and policy support by the United Nations to ensure effective implementation of these reform programs, based on the relationship of the United Nations and Bangladesh, especially in ensuring accountability and transparency.

He also emphasized on the need for international support in the transition from LDC and post-transition to the international support of the United Nations, with the UN Residential Office and the overall cooperation of the UN Residential Office, with the UN-residential office, the UN-based community supporting the UN-based community, which has a challenge for many developing countries, including Bangladesh, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and global economic recession.

Under Secretary General Li Junhuta, the ongoing meeting of the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, praised Bangladesh and expressed its all-out support from the United Nations Secretariat. He told Jasim Uddin that especially through the capacity building of government institutions and support in the digital management sector, the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Department can support Bangladesh in the reform process.
