Former MP denied parole, sees mother's face for the last time at jail gate

Former MP from Rajshahi-3 (Paba-Mohanpur) constituency Mohd. Asaduzzaman Asad was not released on parole due to the death of his mother. However, he got the opportunity to see his deceased mother's face for the last time at the jail gate. He saw his deceased mother's face for the last time at the jail gate on Monday (June 2) at 8:30 pm. Asaduzzaman is the former general secretary of Rajshahi District Awami League. He was elected as a member of parliament for the first time in the 12th National Parliament election. He was arrested when the Awami government fell on August 5 last year. He is now imprisoned in Rajshahi Central Jail.

Asaduzzaman's mother Saleha Begum died on Monday afternoon at the age of 80.

Relatives said that after her death, an application was made to the District Commissioner for the release of the eldest son Asaduzzaman on parole. However, due to security reasons, the parole was not granted. However, the opportunity was given to see the face of the deceased mother at the Karafat.

It is learned that Asaduzzaman is a resident of Lakshmipur Bhatapara area of Rajshahi city. They are seven siblings. Five of them are directly involved in Awami League politics. Asaduzzaman is in prison, while the other four brothers are also in hiding.

The four brothers who were in hiding also did not get a chance to see their mother. Only Saleha Begum's third son, Akhtaruzzaman, came. Although his brother is an MP, he is not involved in any politics. He earns his living by driving a private car.

Relatives said that Akhtaruzzaman went home in the afternoon and saw his dead mother's face. However, he could not attend his mother's funeral due to security concerns.

Rajshahi Central Jail Senior Jail Superintendent Md. Shah Alam Khan said that former MP Asaduzzaman was not released on parole. Therefore, for humanitarian reasons, the body was brought to the jail gate in an ambulance and shown to him from a distance.

Despite multiple attempts to contact Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar on her mobile phone to inquire about the parole application, no response was received.
