Sajjad Hossain Saju (Faridpur District Representative)
The bamboo bridge, the only means of transportation for thousands of residents of Guchchagram in Akoterechar Bazar of Sadarpur Upazila of Faridpur, has been in a state of disrepair for a long time. Recently, instead of repairing the bridge, UP Chairman Aslam Bepari arbitrarily opened it and took away the bamboos, which has caused great suffering to the people.
It can be seen in Saro land that the only means of transportation for the villagers, the bamboo bridge, has been in a dilapidated state for four months. A few days ago, instead of repairing it, Ayub Khan, a follower of the UP chairman, and his people removed it. A few days ago, the sons of the deceased Sek Chander, on behalf of the villagers of Guchcha, raised a demand with the Sadarpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer to repair the bamboo bridge. In view of that demand, the then Upazila Nirbahi Officer Murad Ali ordered Akotechar UP Chairman Aslam Bepari to take immediate action. Disobeying that order, UP Chairman Aslam Bepari and his followers started rushing to build the bridge.
In this regard, the locals said that despite repeated complaints to the administration officials to repair the bamboo bridge for transportation, they did not get any benefit. Instead, the previous useless bamboo bridge was removed instead of being rebuilt. As a result, their only way of movement has been blocked. When Ayub Ali Khan was asked how the bridge was demolished without being repaired, he could not give a good answer. In response to the same question, UP Chairman Aslam Bepari could not give a good answer either. However, he said that he would take the initiative to construct the bamboo bridge as soon as possible.
The UP Chairman said that there was some bamboo in front of the bridge which was misunderstood, resulting in a long wait. The Chairman himself assured that the bridge would be reconstructed as soon as possible.
When I spoke to Sadarpur Upazila Executive Officer Al Mamun on the phone, he said that there was a misunderstanding about the bamboo shack in the canal of Akotechar Bazar, but he said that he had ordered the UP Chairman to construct the shack as soon as possible.
