CEC's resignation announcement may come on Thursday

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Autal held an hour-long closed door meeting for the Election Commissioners. The meeting was held at the Chief Election Commissioner's room at the Agargaon Election Building in the capital on Wednesday (September 4).

In response to a question from reporters about his resignation after the meeting, the CEC said, ‘I will inform you about the resignation tomorrow. Everything will be announced at a press conference on Thursday at 12 noon."

When asked when he will meet the President, he said, ‘I will go to meet the President tomorrow.’

According to a source in the EC, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Authal and four commissioners are preparing to resign, four CECs to announce their resignation at the press conference tomorrow, but the election commissioners disagreed in the press conference.

However, they will send their resignations to the President on the same day.

Former Senior Secretary Kazi Habibul Authal was appointed as CEC on 26 February 2022. Other members of the commission are retired district and senior judge Begum Rashida Sultana, retired brigadier general Ahsan Habib Khan, retired senior secretary Md. Alamgir and retired senior secretary Anichur Rahman took oath to the then Chief Justice Hasan Fatz Siddiqui a day after the inauguration.

It was under this commission that the 12th national parliamentary elections were held. This election was boycotted by the BNP and their like-minded political parties.
