Election date to be announced once voter list is ready

The chief advisor said that the election date will be announced if the voter list is ready to reach the consensus of the country's reforms. Muhammad Yunus.

The chief advisor said this in a meeting with IMF Managing Director Crystalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters on Tuesday.

After the formation of a new government, six commissions have been formed to recommend elections, civil administration, police, judiciary, anti-corruption and important reforms in the constitution.

The government will discuss the recommendations of the commission with the political parties. Yunus said that if there is a consensus on the reforms and the voter list is prepared, the election date will be announced.

IMF chief executive Kristalina Georgieva in this initiative. The lending agency will quickly ‘track’ the issue of financial support for this government, Georgieva said, "He has sent a team of the IMF to Bangladesh and the team is now in Dhaka. The team members will submit their report to the IMF Board of Directors next month."

Georgieva said the IMF board may start a new lending program for Bangladesh based on the party's report or that it could be launched early last year and could lend more loans to the existing support programme.
