Chief Advisor invites US businessmen to invest in Bangladesh

Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus invited more US investment in Bangladesh, saying his government has taken various steps to attract foreign investment and improve the country's business environment.

"You have come to this country at the right time," he told a US business delegation in Dhaka on Tuesday (October 15).

A US business delegation led by Steven Kobos, CEO of Accelerate Energy and Chairman of the US-Bangladesh Business Council, met with Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.

Praising the chief advisor for taking the lead of the interim government, Steven Kobos said it will boost business confidence in Bangladesh.

He said, "Since you took office, the interest of American companies in Bangladesh has increased significantly."

Kobos also said that leading US companies, including members of the US-Bangladesh Business Council, are very interested in the business potential in this South Asian country.

Accelerate Energy CEO Kobos said his company plans to invest more in Bangladesh's energy sector and reducing carbon emissions.

He said the company wants to increase the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the country. Currently, Accelerate has invested in two offshore floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) in Bangladesh, which supply 1.1 billion cubic feet of gas per day. About 34 percent of the country's daily gas supply comes from here.

During his recent visit to the United States, the Chief Advisor addressed a function of the US-Bangladesh Business Council. The event was attended by 50 members of the organization, including some leading American multinational companies. Dr. Yunus invited the American businessmen present to invest in Bangladesh.

During the meeting, Steven Cobos was accompanied by senior officials from Accelerate Energy, including former US Ambassador to Dhaka Peter Haas. Peter recently joined Accelerate Energy as a strategic advisor. The company's vice presidents Derek Wong and Ramon Wangdi, and Bangladesh resident manager Habib Bhuiyan were also present in the delegation.
