Record Profits Bangladesh Shipping Corporation

The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has earned a net profit of Tk 306 crore 56 lakh in the financial year 2024-25, which is the highest in the 54-year history of the organization, which has recommended 25 percent cash dividend (cash dividend) for the sector.

The 48th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation held at 11 am on Monday (December 22) was presided over by B.Sc Board of Directors and Advisor to the Ministry of Shipping Brigaditar General (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawtat Hossain.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping. Nurunnahar Chowdhury (NDC), shareholders and related senior officials.

M Sakhawat Hossain said that the interim government has arranged for 1 billion dollars in investment in Chittagong in the last year.

He said, ‘World Bank is investing 680 ml of money in the Bay Terminal. At the same time, the foreign company Mark Line will build a terminal with a money of 500 ml, which is the world's largest ship company. At the same time, we have given the world's second largest ship MSC Shipping, Pangaon terminal, which was making a loss of 22 crores every year. When the terminal is opened, there will be goods for the transportation of goods by sea. There will be resources.’

Commodore Mahmudul Malek, Managing Director of the Annual General Meeting BSC presented the overall activities and financial report for the financial year 2024-25.

He said that in the fiscal year 2024-25, the management of BSC was Tk 590 crore 98 lakh and from other sectors it has 207 crore 30 lakh taka. In all mills, the total is 798 crore 28 lakh taka.

On the other hand, the management has been 289 crore 92 lakh taka, which is 126 crore 45 lakh taka in the administrative and financial sector. The total is 416 crore 27 lakh taka.

In the previous fiscal year 2023-24, the total amount of BSC was Tk 596 crore 18 lakh and the net profit after tax was Tk 249 crore 69 lakh in the last one year, the net income has been Tk 56 crore 87 lakh in the span of one year.

The managing director said that there is a plan to buy new ships in his own funds, it has been recommended to pay the same amount of dividend as the previous year. He also said that if business growth continues in the future, he also said that he will pay more dividends.

According to the audited account, at the end of the financial year 2024-25, the total assets of BSC have been 3 thousand 582 crore 92 lakh taka. At the same time, the total amount of the organization was 1 thousand 983 crore 77 lakh taka.

The meeting was notified, although the manpower approved in the BSC Shore Establishment (office) was 1,521, but only 225 people were working in the office till June 30, 2025. The officers and sailors working on the ship had 147 manpower.

He said, the Chinese government's debt with the loan has already been bought, of which 5 ships are currently being operated commercially. Besides, two bulk carrier ship buying projects have been approved in the whole of their own funds. One of which has already been added to the fleet called ‘MV Banglar Pragati’. The second ship ‘MV Bangla's Navajatra’ is scheduled to be joined in the next January.

There are several projects in place to buy new tankers, bulk carriers and container ships in this government loan and own finances. Participation in container transport has also been launched with the initiative of Essan Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
