Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will visit Bangladesh tomorrow, Friday, at the invitation of Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The Malaysian Prime Minister is coming to Dhaka to discuss ways to take the relationship between the two countries to new heights.
He will visit Dhaka on Friday (October 4) afternoon at the invitation of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. This was revealed in a report by media outlet UNB on Thursday (October 3).
The Malaysian Prime Minister is likely to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at or after 2pm today. He will then go directly to a hotel. He will stay there for about four hours. A senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this to UNB.
A Malaysian prime minister will visit Bangladesh after almost a decade, and this is the first visit by a head of government to Bangladesh since the formation of the interim government on August 8.
A bilateral meeting will be held between Chief Advisor Professor Yunus and the Malaysian Prime Minister at the same hotel, followed by a joint briefing.
Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain said the meeting will highlight sectors of mutual interest, including economic, political, trade and investment, education, technology and human resource development, manpower export, higher education assistance, communications, infrastructure development, and defense cooperation.
The Malaysian Prime Minister will also meet with President Md. Shahabuddin.
Malaysia is set to become the next chairman of ASEAN in January 2025, and the Rohingya issue will also be discussed.
Apart from this, the issue of Bangladesh becoming a 'Sectoral Dialogue Partner' in ASEAN in the field of regional cooperation will also be specifically raised.
Stating that "this visit is very important in terms of bilateral relations," the Foreign Affairs Advisor said that when the Malaysian Prime Minister arrives in Dhaka, he will be given a warm welcome according to state protocol.
Before the visit, the advisor said that this visit is expected to deepen bilateral relations and be considered an expression of lasting friendship between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
The Malaysian Prime Minister will be accompanied by a 58-member delegation, which will include the country's Foreign Minister, Trade and Investment Minister, Deputy Transport Minister, Deputy Religious Affairs Minister, two members of parliament, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Malaysia is the eighth largest investor in Bangladesh.
