EC complaint against Zeba, candidate for reserved women's seat

Twentieth Nationality has filed a complaint against Zeba Amina Khan, the candidate for the reserved women's seat in the Parliament and the vice-president of the National Women's Party, with the information about the dual citizenship, affidavit assets hidden and multiple criminal and civil cases.

On Wednesday (April 22), two residents of Banani, Dhaka, Nadeem Mahmud and Masood Mridha, filed separate complaints, including the Supreme Court lawyer Hosne Ara, who filed a complaint with the commission on behalf of Masud Mridha.

The complaint filed with the Joint Secretary of Election Management-2 Division of the Election Commission Secretariat and the concerned Returning Officer has claimed that Zeba Amina Khan has taken citizenship of the United Kingdom along with Bangladesh. According to the Complainant, according to Article 66(2) of the Constitution, a person has lost his eligibility to become a Member of Parliament if he has a dual citizenship.

The complaint further states that the candidate has not disclosed the full information of his election affidavit. According to the complainant, Gulshan area of the capital has seven flats in his name in a plot of 108. Out of which the holding tax of five flats has been in a long-standing amount of more than 32 lakh rupees.

The charge sheet also mentions that the information of these assets should not be included in the affidavit, which may be considered a punishable offense under the People's Representation Order (RPO).

The records of a UK-based company have been mentioned, Zeba Amina Khan has been shown as the director, and the company has also been accused of later aborting, including questioning its nationality, residence and business involvement.

The complaint also said that several cases have been filed against Zeba Amina Khan, including Bigami, fraud, family dispute, child guardianship cases and armed attack allegations. However, none of these cases have been settled or detailed information in the charge sheet.

The complainant requested the Election Commission to conduct a quick investigation into the complaints of the mentioned complaints and take legal action and cancel the candidature of the candidate.

There is no official comment on the issue of the Election Commission yet.

The lawyer of Masud Mridha said that I have submitted a written complaint to the Election Commission as per the statement of my client. If the Election Commission does not take action according to the law, further legal action will be taken.

In this regard, Zeba Amina's personal mobile and WhatsApp number were contacted when she did not receive the call.

Former organizing secretary of the district BNP, Mir Geezauddin Mizan, said that the Election Commission has already validated the nomination papers of 36 people including Zeba Amina Khan. The complaint made by the Election Commission is false. The complainant's father has no name or address. These false complaints should not be taken into account by the Election Commission.

It should be noted that Zeba Amina Khan participated in the parliamentary elections in Jhalkathi-2 constituency in 2018 on BNP nomination.
