The low pressure area formed in the Bay of Bengal has now turned into a clear depression, which could cause rain across the country, the Meteorological Department said.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Office has issued local warning signal number 3 for the country's seaports due to low pressure. Signal number 1 has been issued for river ports.
The Meteorological Department has said that rain is likely to occur in the capital on Friday due to the influence of low pressure.
They said that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur in most parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions today. Along with this, moderate to heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur in some parts of the country.
Rain has started since yesterday, especially in the southern coastal areas of the country. The highest rainfall in the last 24 hours was 378 millimeters in Cox's Bazar. The extent of the rain is likely to increase further from today.
Meteorologist of the Meteorological Department Md. Omar Faruk said, the low pressure over the sea turned into a clear low pressure last night. It may turn into a low pressure tonight. This may cause rain in different parts of the country, especially from tomorrow. And the temperature may decrease slightly.
The Meteorological Department has asked the seaports of Chittagong, Mongla, Payra and Cox's Bazar to display local warning signal number 3 due to the low pressure. Fishing trawlers in the north Bay of Bengal have been asked to stay close to the coast until further notice.
