Former Agriculture Minister and Awami League Presidium Member Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak and former MP from Gopalganj-1 constituency and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Lt. Col. (retd.) Faruk Khan have been sent to jail after being remanded for two days in separate murder cases of the anti-discrimination student movement. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider ordered their jailing on Thursday (October 17).
On October 15, the court granted Abdur Razzak a two-day remand for questioning in the murder case of businessman Abdul Wadud in the capital's New Market area. After that remand, on Thursday, the case's investigation officer, Detective Branch (DB) Ramna Zonal Team Police Inspector Jahangir Arif, presented him in court and requested to be detained in jail. The defendant's lawyer applied for bail. After the hearing, the judge rejected his bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
The DB arrested Abdur Razzak from the capital's Eskaton area at around 7:45 pm on October 14.
On the other hand, the court granted a two-day remand to Faruk Khan on October 15 in connection with the murder of BNP activist Maqbul Hossain two years ago. After the remand, Nazmul Hachan, the investigation officer of the case, produced him in court on Thursday and requested to send him to jail. The lawyer for the accused applied for bail. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail and ordered to send him to jail.
Earlier, he was arrested at 1:45 am on October 14 from the CMH area of Dhaka under the leadership of Major Abir of RAB-1.
