Awami League leader Shirin detained at airport along with husband

Immigration police have detained Shirin Chowdhury, chairman of Agla Union Parishad in Nawabganj Upazila of Dhaka and vice-president of Dhaka District Women's Awami League, and her husband from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Shirin Chowdhury went to the airport with her husband on Wednesday (September 25) afternoon to fly to Australia.

Nawabganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mominul Islam confirmed their detention and said that Agla Union Parishad Chairman Shirin Chowdhury and her husband Mahfuzur Rahman alias Masudur Rahman went to Dhaka Airport around 12 noon on Wednesday to go to Australia. During interrogation by the immigration police, she identified herself as the UP chairman. Later, when the immigration police informed the Nawabganj Police Station about the matter, they learned that Shirin Chowdhury had two cases against her. Later, she was detained along with her husband.

The OC also said that the immigration police handed over the two detainees to the Nawabganj police station on Wednesday evening.
