The Government has formed the Constitution Reform Commission to review and evaluate the Constitution, which is led by political scientist and writer Prof. Ali Riaz, and the 9-member commission will prepare a report on the recommendation of the constitutional reform within 90 days and hand it over to the government.
The Cabinet Department has come to know this information in a notification on Monday.
Other members of the commission are - Professor Sumaiya Khair of the Law Department of Dhaka University, Barrister Imran Siddiqui, Professor Muhammad Ikramul Haque, a teacher of the Law Department of Dhaka University, Supreme Court lawyer Dr. Sharif Bhuiyan, Barrister M Moin Alam Ferozi, writer Firoz Ahmed, writer and human rights activist Md. Mustain Billah and student representative. Mahfuz Alam.
It is said in the notification that the Constitution Reform Commission has been formed with the approval of the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government to prepare a report with the necessary recommendations for the purpose of reforming the Constitution by reviewing and evaluating the existing constitution of the country for the purpose of establishing a representative and effective democracy and empowering the people.
The commission will start its activities from October 6 and prepare the report within the next 90 days considering everyone's opinion and hand it over to the Chief Adviser to the Interim Government.
It is also said in the notification that all the related ministries, departments, offices, organizations of the Republic will provide the necessary information and data according to the commission and provide all kinds of cooperation.
The Commission may include a suitable person as a member of the Commission if necessary, and the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs will provide secretarial assistance to the Commission, the notification also mentioned.
