Today, the state mourns the memory of the victims of the quota movement

Today (July 30) has announced a one-day state mourning in memory of the members of the law enforcement forces and other victims around the quota movement.

The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday (July 29), which was chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

In the afternoon, the Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain confirmed this information to reporters.

He said, ‘The situation that was created in the anti-quota movement, a report was presented by the Home Minister. Other ministers have also presented detailed information on their behalf. The cabinet has taken two decisions after reviewing the information. One is the event of this movement, a condolence proposal has been accepted for those who have been killed. The proposal will be officially taken up tomorrow, the proposal will be held tomorrow, the country will be held this year.’

He further said, ‘Black batch will be held as part of mourning. Doa, temple-churja-pagos will be held in the mosque.’

Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan confirmed that 147 people were killed in the conflict and violence surrounding the quota movement, he gave such information during a briefing at his office at the Secretariat on Sunday (July 28).

The continuous movement of students to demand quota reform started on July 1. After the clashes around the students' movement in Dhaka University on July 15, the protests were in the country.
