He said these things in response to questions from journalists after the coordination meeting of the district and upazila committee of NCP at Jamalpur Zilla Parishad auditorium on Monday (October 13).
Sergis Alam said, ‘If the upper house is PR comes into effect and success will be achieved in the future, people will decide whether it will be applicable in the lower house or not, but at the moment we are only taking a clear stand for PR in the upper house.’
He added that the way back to the democratic process would be smooth as the judicial reforms and the progress of the July charter were satisfactorily followed, and the NCP is expecting a transparent election.
Stating that the work is underway to organize the NCP, Sergis said, ‘The stronger the organizationally, the more the representation of the people in the parliament will increase.’
He said that discussions are also going on to form alliances with various political parties ahead of the upcoming National Assembly elections, but the NCP is also ready for the election alone. He added, “Even if we have an alliance, we will participate in the election under the name of ‘National National Party (NCP)’ and we will contest in the Shapla symbol.”
