It's amazing! Kannada cinema is now ruling the Indian box office. Rishav Shetty's new film 'Kantara: Chapter 1', which was released at the beginning of the Durga Puja holidays, is now running at a fast pace. This Kannada film has earned Rs 162 crore in just three days of its release, which is being considered as one of the best openings of this year.
The film has collected Rs 162.85 crore in the domestic market in India till Saturday (October 5) (third day). According to data from analytics firm Sacklink, 'Kantara: Chapter 1' earned Rs 61.85 crore on the first day, Rs 46 crore on the second day, and another Rs 55 crore on the third day. This figure has reached the 150 crore mark in three days. In just three days, the film has become the highest-grossing Kannada film of the year.
Rishab Shetty's film is not only beating the big budget films in the regional cinema; it is also beating the big budget films in India. On Saturday, it left behind Salman Khan's 'Sikandar' (Rs 110 crore) and Ram Charan's 'Game Changer' (Rs 131 crore). With this achievement, 'Kantara: Chapter 1' is now only the fourth film in the history of the Kannada industry to enter the 150 crore club.
The film's popularity is growing not only in India but also abroad. The film has earned $2.5 million (about Rs. 22 crore) in the international market in the first two days of its release. This income is expected to increase further over the weekend.
‘'Kantara: Chapter 1' is actually a prequel to the popular movie 'Kantara'. After the unique success of the previous film, the expectations of the audience were skyrocketing, and Rishabh Shetty seems to have gone beyond those expectations. The film is a powerful period action drama built on a combination of history, myth and folk beliefs, where Rishabh once again showcases his directing and acting skills.
There is no sign of the audience's interest in the film waning yet. According to critics, if this trend continues, it could soon enter the 200 crore club.
