Two puppies were beaten to death in Latachapali union of Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali and two more puppies were beaten to death. The incident took place around 10 am on Monday (December 22).
According to local sources, when the puppies ate the chickens of a house in the morning, a woman named Sonia got angry and killed two puppies with a stick, which is the daughter of Alamgir, a resident of the area, and after the incident, there was a lot of anger in the area.
‘Such cruelty to innocent animals cannot be accepted. This incident should be an exemplary punishment,’ said local resident Fatima, said another resident, Sattar Hawladar, said, ‘Killing puppies for the crime of eating chickens is an inhuman act. The administration should take quick action.’
In this context, KM Bachchu, a member of the organization of ‘Animal Lovers’, said, ‘This is how brutality on animals gives a terrible message to the society. We want the culprits to be brought under the law after investigation.’ Accused Sonia Begum said, ‘I got angry and killed them because I have killed them. This has happened before.’
Kawsar Hamid, Kalapara upazila executive officer, said about the incident, ‘This is a very heartbreaking incident. We are looking into the matter seriously. We have been talking to the OC. Necessary action will be taken after investigation.’
Officer-in-charge of Mohipur police station. Mohabbat Khan said, ‘We are aware of the matter. The police have been sent to the spot. Legal action will be taken after the investigation.’
According to the locals, such brutality increases the risk of violence in society, demanding quick administrative intervention and appropriate punishment for the culprits.
