Sand dam to prevent erosion in Barguna's Patharghata
Mainul Abedin Khan Suman, Barguna District Correspondent: A sand dam has been built to prevent river erosion in Patharghata, Barguna. Before the construction work was completed, sand is being washed away by the tidal water. Most of the sand bags have burst and mixed with the soil. Lakhs of development money is being washed away in the water. The embankment on the bank of the Bishkhali river in the Charlathimara area of Patharghata upazila of Barguna in the 40/1 polder of the Water Development Board has broken into two parts. After the cyclone Remal, the Water Development Board has taken the initiative to repair the 400-meter embankment by pouring sand bags. The construction cost has been estimated at 59 lakh 89 thousand 414 taka. Contractor Zahirul Islam has constructed the dam to prevent river erosion by pouring geo bags and geo tubesâĻ
