The so-called “Rooppur corruption investigation” is essentially a misleading campaign, designed to spread misinformation and harassment against the former prime minister and her family. The Anti-Corruption Commission of Bangladesh (ACC), which was recently reconstituted by the interim government led by Dr. Yunus and includes pro-government and BNP-affiliated individuals, has decided to investigate alleged corruption allegations in the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project (RNPP). A Jubo League leader was hacked to death in Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati. The murder took place in Balukhali area of Raikhali Union of the upazila on Monday night. The deceased Jubo League leader has been identified as Md. Obaid Ullah (43). He was the vice-president of Raikhali Union Jubo League. According to police and local sources, Obaid was on his way to Balukhali house from Kargipara Bazar around 10:30 pm yesterday after closing his own business. When he reached near the village, some miscreants stopped him. Later, before he could understand anything, he started chopping leaves indiscriminately. Police have taken Abul Kalam Azad, the father of a Chhatra League leader, on a two-day remand in the case of the 'slashing to death' of his mother in Boda upazila of Panchagarh. He was arrested by the police as a suspect and presented in court on Saturday afternoon and applied for a seven-day remand, but the judge granted him a two-day remand. The woman was killed inside her house in Kaliaganj area of Kajoldighi Kaliaganj union of the upazila around 8:30 pm last Thursday. Locals said that BNP Jamaat workers who came looking for her son but could not find him, hacked her mother to death. The deceased, Arina Begum (45), is the wife of Abul Kalam Azad of the area.
