The country's first mobile phone operator Citycell wants to return to the market by seeking the return of its canceled license. Pacific Bangladesh Telecom, the owner of Citycell, sent a letter to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on September 1, seeking the return of both the operating and radio equipment licenses. In the letter, the company claimed that their airwaves were initially suspended due to political vendetta. They blamed former State Minister for Telecommunications Tarana Halim for this. In the letter sent to the BTRC, Pacific Telecom said that due to the suspension of airwaves, they have lost about Tk 4,000 crore in total in the last 8 years due to bank loans, employee dues, and damage to infrastructure.
