The United States has claimed that China has a potential military presence in several countries around the world, including Bangladesh. This claim was made in the US Defense Intelligence Agency's (DIA) Global Threat Assessment report this year.
The report warns that China is likely considering a military presence in Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Cuba, Kenya, Guinea, Seychelles, Tanzania, Angola, Nigeria, Namibia, Mozambique, Gabon, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Tajikistan. China maintains its strategic goal of becoming a major power in Asia.
The report claims that Beijing is moving forward with its goal of taking over Taiwan, boosting China's economy and becoming technologically self-sufficient by the middle of this century. It is also challenging Washington for global leadership.
The US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) publishes reports every year on various global threats. This year's report was recently released. The report titled '2025 Worldwide Threat Assessment' mentions threats from China, including Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Myanmar.
The report said that China is increasing its ability to compete with the United States and its allies in diplomatic, informational, military and economic fields. Based on this, Beijing is competing with Washington and its allies in the Indo-Pacific and its surrounding region. Chinese President Xi Jinping is taking various initiatives to better prepare China for this competition. This includes continuing efforts to weaken support for the US military alliance and its security partnership. The report raised concerns about Chinese military presence in various countries, but did not provide any information about the nature of the presence.
However, to give an idea of Beijing's possible activities, the report says that China carries out these activities in a mixed system. It keeps garrison forces (troops stationed in specific places) and bases. In addition, the forces of the countries where these activities are carried out also join and benefit. Apart from this, it also includes commercial infrastructure. China did this in Tanzania last year.
The report claimed that China has demonstrated its military might globally through Tanzania. It said that it was China's largest military exercise in Africa. The exercise saw the Chinese military demonstrate its might globally by deploying more than 1,000 troops at sea and in the air.
